The pattern is consistent across the accounts we watch. Search volume on "best [product]" queries is flat or falling, while the same question is being asked inside ChatGPT and Perplexity in growing numbers. The answer names two or three products. Everyone else is invisible, not ranked tenth.
Why stores get skipped
A page that says "premium quality, fast shipping" gives an assistant nothing to quote. Specifications, materials, dimensions and honest limitations are what get lifted into an answer.
Assistants answer shortlist questions from shortlist pages. If nothing on your site compares your product against the obvious alternatives, you are not in the source set.
If your reviews load through JavaScript from a third party, they may not be in the crawled page at all. Review data that cannot be read cannot be cited.
Product, Offer and AggregateRating markup is how price and availability travel cleanly. Without it the assistant either guesses or moves on.
What the work covers
- Feed and schema hygiene. Product, Offer, AggregateRating and Brand markup on every product and category page, validated and matched to what the page actually says. Price and stock states kept accurate, because a stale price is a reason to be dropped.
- Specification depth. Turning marketing copy into fact tables an assistant can quote. Weight, dimensions, materials, compatibility, warranty, and what the product is not suited for.
- Comparison and buying-guide pages. The pages that answer "best X for Y" and "X vs Z" for your categories, written to be quoted rather than to rank alone. This is where most of the citations come from.
- Review surfacing. Getting review content into the server-rendered page so it can be crawled, and structuring it so the sentiment is legible rather than a star image.
- Third-party presence. Being mentioned on the roundups and category lists that assistants already trust. The citation often points at a page you do not own that names you.
What tends to move first
Category and comparison pages usually earn citations within eight to twelve weeks. Individual product pages take longer and rarely get cited alone, which is why the work starts one level up from the product.
Ordinary organic traffic tends to rise alongside it. The specification depth and schema work that makes a page quotable is the same work that makes it rank, so the two rarely move independently.
Questions we get asked
Do AI assistants actually drive sales?
They drive qualified visits rather than volume. The traffic is small today and converts well, because someone arriving from a recommendation has already had the comparison done for them.
Which matters more, product pages or category pages?
Category and comparison pages get cited far more often. Assistants answer "what is the best X" with a shortlist, and that shortlist is built from pages that compare, not pages that sell one item.
Does Product schema help?
It helps the assistant read price, availability and reviews without guessing. It does not by itself get you named, but its absence makes you easy to skip.
We sell on Daraz and Amazon, not our own site. Does this apply?
Partly. Marketplace listings do get cited, but you control very little of the page. Most of the leverage sits on a site you own, which is the usual argument for having one.
How is this measured?
A fixed set of buying prompts run monthly, recording whether your products were named, which page was cited, and which competitor took the slot when you were not.
Ask an assistant about your category
Then tell us who it named. That answer is the brief, and it usually takes one conversation to work out what is missing.
